Understanding the TenJet® Procedure

We often take our tendons for granted, assuming that they’re doing their part to enable our mobility and range of motion. When one of your tendons becomes damaged, however, you’re often left painfully aware of just how much you rely on these connective tissues.

Tendons 101

Before we get into our innovative TenJet technology, let’s take a brief look at your tendons and how they can become damaged.

Your tendons have the critical job of attaching your muscles to your bones, which means they play no small role in your mobility and range of motion. Thanks to this workload, these connective tissues can become overstressed or injured over time and develop tiny tears, which is called tendonitis.

In most cases, tendonitis can be resolved with some rest and anti-inflammatory medications. If, however, your tendon doesn’t heal properly, scar tissue can develop that hinders its ability to function properly. This type of degeneration of the tendon fibers is called tendonosis, which is where our TenJet technology comes in.

TenJet technology

When you have tendon damage, one of the best ways to resolve the problem is to remove the affected tissue to allow healthier tissue the freedom to function normally. This procedure is called a tenotomy, and it describes a process in which we surgically remove the damaged tissue.

With TenJet, we take a far more minimally invasive approach to removing your damaged tendon tissue. Using a needle-like device, we release a steady stream of a saline solution into your damaged tissue to dislodge it, and then we suction out the damaged tissue through a second passageway. 

These processes occur simultaneously, which is why we can complete your TenJet procedure in about 15 minutes. Better still, we only need to use a local anesthetic to keep you comfortable.

To boost your recovery, we often administer platelet-rich plasma after your TenJet procedure to accelerate healing and repair of your tendon.
